Featured

Thanks to our LCMG Native Plants Committee for this month’s native plant profile on the Mexican Hat, Ratibida columnifera. The LCMG Native Plants Committee is a team of volunteers interested in learning more about native plants while sharing that information with others; co-chairs: Ken K. and Laura M.

Star Lily

Star Lily (Leucocrinum montanum) is in the Anthericacea family and is found on prairies, sagebrush grasslands, deserts, and mountain meadows of western North. This tiny flower blooms white in late May or June, with the entire aboveground part of the plant withering away.

Prickly Pear

Plains Pricklypear (Opuntia polyacantha) is a native perennial cactus with flattened fleshy pads, can grow to 10 inches tall and blooms in July with either yellow, pink or red flowers.  This cactus likes dry sunny open areas and sandy, gravelly infertile soil for the ultimate in drought tolerance.
