Cocozelle Summer Squash

This zucchini is an heirloom that dates to the 1880’s from Italy. Its fruit is dark green with lighter green stripes. As with other zucchini, picking them while they are young will get you the best flavor, but as we all know, check them daily…or even twice daily… as they will grow faster than you expect! Unlike other zucchini types, however, this type grows as a compact bush, and the instructions advise you can plant 3 to a hill. This zucchini is great for small garden plots or possibly even a 5-gallon bucket!! The Cocozelle will mature in 50 days and can be grown directly from seed after the danger of frost passes. It will keep producing right up until our first frost. I found these seeds online from Thresh Seed Company. I will be growing these in beds this year and will take pictures as they grow.
On another note, my Colorado Red Star Artichokes are growing like crazy! Here is a picture of them today. I will probably start transplanting in the next few days. I will let you know how well they do!

As always, Happy Gardening!!
